Mass Effect

Return

In Mass Effect you play as Commander Shepherd. At the helm of the Normandy, you explore the galaxy in search of downed probes, abandoned mines, mercenary outposts, derelict spacecraft and the like. A seemingly infinite amount of side quests and a main story that is compelling as it is exciting. Create your own Shepherd (male or female) or start a pre-made character and select several options to fill in your personal history. Even since inception several missions only become available depending on your background and the choices you make through out. The dialogue is the best in any game you'll ever see. It's not boring, stale or dry in the least. Every moment plays out like an interactive movie. Talking to NPCs is fun to watch and listen while the camera switches angles and the characters make slight gestures and make body movements. These subtle effects help make for an interactive experience that you will get lost in for days. The combat take a bit of getting used to but once you've got the hang of it, it's smooth as babies ass. The classes seem pretty fairly balanced even though they have different abilities. Applying talent points when gaining a level is alot more simple then going through screen after screen after screen of constant stats. Weapons customization isn't at all like it sounds. Its straight forward and once you find one of the various upgrades you wont won't to bother to switch. Of course better weapons and armor allow for more upgrades (the Specter Master Gear is fantastic). Mass Effect is a huge game that will encompass a ton of time and you will love every second of it. Whether you decide to play as a renegade, a paragon, a sentinel or a vanguard I guarantee you cant go wrong with this game.

P.S. - the cast of characters from good guys to bad guys are some of the best in video gaming history. Tell me Liara isn't way more powerful then she seems. Ashley is hot. Garrus is cool. Wrex is by far the best second maybe only to Saren (and he has the funniest things to say) and Saren himself is a great villain. Just trust me. Check it out.

Gameplay: Great but sometimes the squad commands can leave you wanting.
Controls: Nothing new but the learning curve isn't high, ultimately it gets the job done.
Graphics: This is next-next-gen people. Some of the best graphics you will ever see in a game thanks again to the Unreal engine.
Sound: The music is certainly Sci-Fi at its best and the other sounds are top notch.
Replay Value: Insanely High.
Overall:
9.7 out of 10
